In today's paper I read about these cream puffs. The title is, "Cream puff with weird name going Hawaiian." It really made me laugh. Worse... I've contacted the writer Andrew Gomes to tell him that he is violating state law (HRS 10-2) where "Hawaiian" is defined legally LOL Everyone chooses their battle. This is mine... and while doing so I like to make people laugh as well as laugh while doing so LOL:

Hawai'i Revised Statute 10-2:

"Hawaiian" means any descendant of the aboriginal peoples inhabiting the Hawaiian Islands which exercised sovereignty and subsisted in the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, and which peoples thereafter have continued to reside in Hawaii.

This is what I wrote to him:

"Mr. Gomes,

I just read your article, "Creme puff with weird name going Hawaiian" and thought you would like to know that "Hawaiian" is defined by state law, Hawai'i Revised Statute 10-2 which can be easily seen here: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol01_Ch0001-0042F/HRS0010/HRS_0010-0002.htm:

"Hawaiian" means any descendant of the aboriginal peoples inhabiting the Hawaiian Islands which exercised sovereignty and subsisted in the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, and which peoples thereafter have continued to reside in Hawaii.

It was very annoying to see you misuse the word when it is defined by state law. However I realize that part of your job is to sell stories and thus make a profit for your paper but please try to respect Hawaiians and/or other Hawaiians if you are also Hawaiian. Thank you."

Of course I'm not really annoyed hehe Of course I laugh because instead of using my personal email address I used my email address for a non-profit organization LOL

Then someone told me about this guy's MySpace:

http://www.myspace.com/christophercruz

In it he wrote, "I'm hapa (do yer research!)" which really makes me laugh. Also it's very unattractive when people disrespect native American culture and/or part or parts of native American culture(s) covertly or overtly. They look ugly and unattractive to me. Yuck.

For a second, I saw the pictures and thought you were about to say something negative about malasadas. Then, omg, I'd totally have to be your enemy for life! :P :P

He didn't do anything wrong.

You know as well as I do that he didn't write the headline.

I inadvertently responded using one of my other journals here. Sorry about that but

You're right. He probably has very little editorial control so it's not his fault but I would like to think that he at least knows that some people noticed the headline.
