Since my mother called me this morning to inform me that she asked her friend to make ake for me because she knows how much I LOVE to eat ake... I have extended my trip to Virginia where she will be bringing poi and ake to me LOL I would friggen give practically anything to eat ake! As a reminder to those who are not Hawaiian and/or who are not from Hawai'i... this is kinda how it looks:

It's seasoned cow innards. It is one of many things that I find yummy and orgasmic. Ahhhh!

So I will be in Virginia from June 25th til July 15th (instead of from June 25th til July 6th) just so that I can eat the poi and ake that my mother is bringing with her *LOL* (Thanks, Mom!)

Of course I laugh because I look so "Haole" and when I tell other Hawaiians that I eat ake and ake palu they look at me as though I have four heads haha

Even before I was a middle-school language arts teacher, I had this kids' book called Dance for the Land. It was written by a teacher at Kamehameha, and it's about a family where the mother is haole and has passed away, the father is a Hawaiian lawyer, the brother looks local, and the daughter looks haole. When they're in California, the brother has a hard time because he looks Hawaiian. When they move to Hawaii, the brother's in Heaven, and the sister has a hard time.

It explains a lot of the issues about modern Hawaii (Sovereignty, bullying) better than most books written for adults! There's a newer version called Dance for the 'aina that is essentially the same book. McLaren is the author.

Are you going to be in Northern Virginia? If so, check out halau.org.

No... I won't be going to DC or North VA. I'm going to be in the Norfolk area. Oh and I've seen that website before :)

It's actually pretty good. Well it's tasty to me and I like it though my husband stares at me as though I am a wild animal when I eat it next to him LOL
