Picture of Makahiki

* Makahiki can be considered sacred to the Hawaiian people yet some people take photographs of it. On one hand I mind since it's sacrilegious to take photographs of a sacred event. On the other hand, if people can see what it's about then perhaps they will respect the Hawaiian culture and its people. ANYWAY here is a photograph of makahiki (pronounced "mah-kah-hee-keeh"):

Laurence Wallace Camvel blessed the participants in the closing ceremony of Makahiki at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base on Saturday. The celebration marks the end of the season, which is a traditional time of harvest, peace and abundance overseen by the Hawaiian god Lono. Families, civic clubs, students and other members of the community participated in the ceremony.
