Possible Hawaiian

St. Andrew's Priory student Jamie Kahalehili was among 500 students and staff who honored Queen Emma on her birthday yesterday at the Royal Mausoleum in Nuuanu. The Hawaiian monarch co-founded the school with Mother Sellon of the Anglican Church in 1867.

Since some people have been known to lie about being Hawaiian... this person may be Hawaiian. It's difficult to tell with names nowadays so looking at the bones (or "'iwi" pronounced "eeh-veeh") is the only way to go. Even then we are not supposed to expose our bones to others. What's a Hawaiian to do? It's a Catch 22... times 2.

I know you know what I am, but just by looking at me... what would you think I was...?

If I didn't know you at all and I didn't know your ethnicity then I would think that you are Hawaiian because physically you look Hawaiian.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Usually, when most people ask me, I say, "Hawaiian". Not that I'm really, REALLY lying, but it's easier. Some people, if not most, have no idea "WHAT IS" or "WHERE IS" Samoa... so, just saying, "Yes, I'm Hawaiian". I know with you it's a Pet Peeve... But, you know who I am and that's all that matters, right?

Well I know that according to the Kumulipo that Hawaiians branched off or may have branched off from Samoans but even then Hawaiians are Hawaiian and Samoa and Samoa. Still though... it would piss me off if you told people that you're Hawaiian but technically Samoans are our cousins so technically no you're not lying but I would rather have you tell people that you're Samoan. Just a small pet peeve of mine but I know you're gonan do what you're gonna do LOL

On my last trip to Pago Pago, American Samoa, I met someone there that was very informative about Hawai`i and Samoa. It is very likely that Hawaiians and Samoans are CLOSE COUSINS. He told me how a Samoan Princess would marry a Hawaiian Prince and vice-versa. And just look at that the island names: "Hawai`i" and "Savai`i" and the words: "Aloha" and "Talofa"... Huh, makes you wonder how much is true and how much is myth...

Yeah... some of the material that I've read brought me to the conclusion that Hawaiians may have come from Samoa and are thus descendants of Samoans and/or cousins. That's why I don't have a problem when Samoans say theyre Hawaiian but still... they moved to different islands. That's the part where the distinction should be made so props can be given to Samoans and to Hawaiians.

There wasn't an opportunity to respond to the Akaka bill on the other post, but I don't really think Akaka himself is anti-Hawaiian. Don't you often say you're not anti-Haole because, you're haole yourself?

Did you used to support the Akaka Bill?

"There wasn't an opportunity to respond to the Akaka bill on the other post, but I don't really think Akaka himself is anti-Hawaiian."

At times I think so too but sometimes I wonder about him.

"Don't you often say you're not anti-Haole because, you're haole yourself?"

In the past I have stated that and it's also because I like some of the Haole Ways like the tv, the computer, CDs, etc.

"Did you used to support the Akaka Bill?"

Yes... until they changed some of the wording and it dawned on me that it's based on the conditions of the U.S.
