"In the 2000 presidential election, 1.9 million Americans cast ballots that no one counted. "Spoiled votes" is the technical term. The pile of ballots left to rot has a distinctly dark hue: About 1 million of them -- half of the rejected ballots -- were cast by African Americans although black voters make up only 12 percent of the electorate.

This year, it could get worse."

The DieBold company voting machines, used in 37 states, including Florida had some problems in the 2000 elections. Through e-mails exchanged among Diebold employees, one employee reported that in a Florida Precint, one machine gave Al Gore a negative 16,000 votes. Supposedly he lost Florida by 500 votes. If this is true, it means he actually won the Florida vote.

That doesn't surprise me. Kathryn Harris probably played a role in the fiasco. She's a Republican and at the time she was the Secretary of the State of Florida at the time....
